Ok, NEVER allow your dog, even including thosecute little toy dogs, to jump up on humans.
It’s not only annoying to most people whensomeone else's dog jumps on them, but it can also be dangerous.
A jumping dog can knock people over; muddytheir clothes, put runners in nylons, rip clothing, and scratch skin.
In fact, as a young puppy, before we managedto train him properly not to jump, one-time our over-excited Freddy ripped a friend’strouser leg, and another time scratched my elderly mother’s leg, making it bleed.
So, here’s how to train your dog NOT tojump up on people in 2 simple steps: 1.
When you walk into the room and your dogstarts to jump up, calmly turn away and fold your arms.
This teaches the dog that whenhe jumps, he gets ignored and gets no attention at all (no-talk, no-touch, and no-eye-contact).
No eye contact is particularly important becausedogs often take eye contact as an attention-reward.
This is often the hardest rule for peopleto follow because it’s so tempting to look at a cute dog trying his hardest to get your attention.
2.
With your back to your dog, keep an eyeon him over your shoulder.
Once he has all 4 paws on the floor, sitting or standing, provide a treat to him for not jumping.
Repeat this over and over until you can walkinto the room without your dog jumping up.
Then, get a friend to practice the same 2steps with your dog so he learns not to jump on you OR on other people.
If you need professional help for this orany other dog training problem, I recommend an online puppy and dog video training websiteby a professional dog trainer that really does exactly what it says it will do.
